Ikea, Kirklands, and Borders Loot

Here's all the great stuff I got this weekend. I had a very hard time restraining myself at Kirkland's, there were so many things i wanted for when I redo upstairs. I limited myself to only things I can use now.

I'm hoping we can get them put together in the next few days but Andy caught a cold and is really not feeling well, so it may be a few days before I get those babies unwrapped.

House Tour: Craft Room

I rearranged my craft room last night so I figured now would be as good a time as any to show it on the blog. Sorry about the light glare is some of these photos. Before today I had one large and one small white folding table in the room but I decided to take out the large table and keep the small one folded up and only take it out when I need it. I brought in the small brown chair from the porch to have a place to sit to watch movies if I feel like it. Here are the pictures.

Workout room update #3

The paint is on the walls and the laminate is on the floor. I said I was unsure of the color before but now that the floor is down I like it. I'm not crazy about the mixing of wood tone here but I think once the room is full it won't bother me.

The TV is also mounted on the wall, it is on a swivel mount so I can move it so I can see it almost anywhere in the room. We are going to buy some wire covers that will be painted the same color as the room and a small bookcase is going below the tv to hide some of the unsightly mess as well as hold a dvd player and the dvd's I like to watch while working out.

We also put up new blinds but I forgot to take pictures of them so you will have to wait until the final reveal to see those. Hunter is not crazy about the new floor, he will be getting his nails clipped soon so hopefully after that he won't mind it as much.

Workout room update #2

Andy took out the baseboards and ripped out the carpet in the workout room last night. We also started painting but I'm a little worried about the color so you can't see that yet. If I change my mind on the color though Andy may kill me so we are probably just going to hope for the best with the color we picked. If I end up hating it when we are done I can repaint pretty easily. Today we are finishing up painting and putting up the mount for the TV. Tomorrow Andy plans to start the floor.

Workout room update

Progress has finally started on my workout room makeover. Supplies have been purchased and the room has been cleared. My downstairs looks like a bomb went off so I'm hoping we can have painting and the floor complete this week so we can load everything in the room next weekend when we can hopefully get my dad to come over and help move the treadmill back into the room. Of course the room won't be complete until after we go to ikea to get the bookcases and dvd towers, which we won't have until the begining of March. Here is what the room looks like now.

Exciting, right? I'm hoping that nasty old carpet will be outta there tomarrow and some paint will be on the walls.

House Tour: Living Room

The first stop on the house tour is our living room. I'm not really happy with this room and I hope to redo it sometime next year. It's the first room we did when we moved into our house and we hadn't really figured out our style yet. I hope to make it flow better with the downstairs which you will see later. Here are the pictures.

So that is our living room, like I wrote before I don't feel it reflects our style at all but I hope to fix that next year.

Introducing my house tour and some goodwill books

I think since you have seen my two least favorite rooms in my house you should now see the rest of it, you know the parts I like. So starting monday I will take you on our tour of our little home.

I also said I would show the books I picked up last week, here they are.

Shadows of the Wind is going to the top of my tbr pile, I've read great things about it on goodreads.

I think I'm going to take a break from going to goodwill for maybe a month, mostly because I have one of the largest to be read pile known to man. Also because I was there yesterday and found almost nothing except for a few old classics ans a Vince Flynn book for Andy which I of course will show you soon.

I also picked up these three books, the diet book because you never know what useful tidbit might be in those books and the rich dad books because Andy is interested in personal finance.

Workout room pre-makeover

Another project that I am planning is making over my workout room. My husband has purchased me nice workout equipment over the past four years but it sits in what I think of as the armpit of our house. It has the ugly carpet that the previous owners of our house put in and the walls are a muddy pinkish color that looks like dirty white that I hate because it's ugly and boring. I just threw whatever "art" I found around the house just to add some color. An old dresser holds the clunky tv and blocks the entry to the room, and the huge dvd player balances on a little white stand. And don't even get me started on the wire mess. It's not a very welcoming room to go workout in. Here are the really embarassing before pictures. I didn't bother cleaning up at all before these pictures so try not to be grossed out and it was really hard to take pictures of this room.

Scary right. So my birthday present from Andy this year is redoing this room. The plan is to paint, put in a new laminate floor, get new blinds, a new flat screen tv mounted to the wall, and put bookcases against the wall where the blue tape is on the floor. Of course the dresser and all the stuff other then the workout equipment will be kicked out of the room. We also need to figure out a way to wrangle all those wires, I may put a shorter bookcase below the mounted tv to hide wires and to hold some DVD's. So that is the plan, I'm hoping to have this done by my birthday at the beginning of March. I'll show you the color of the wall and the flooring in an upcoming post soon.

Upstairs bathroom pre-facelift

I'm not really happy with our upstairs bathroom. It's not that I hate the color really it's just that the paint was not that special bathroom paint that resists mildew and I can tell. Here is what it looks like right now.

That picture is complete with the clashing blue cup we use as a toothbrush holder that I usually hide when I know someone is coming over.
The next picture is what has been hanging on the wall for the past month waiting for me to make a color decision.

As you can see I'm looking for a neutral color that will work with the old countertop and the floor we put in about two years ago.

The plan is to paint, get new accents and art and possibly get new hardware for the cabinets. It will likely take me at least a month or so to finish because I plan on maybe getting the art on a short trip we are taking soon but I will post my finished bathroom when I'm done.
